Our Beliefs

At Pleasant Grove Church of Christ,

we believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word, and that it guides everything we believe and do. We are committed to living by its teachings, worshiping in truth, and loving in action.

The Bible

We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God, fully trustworthy, and the final authority for faith and life. Through its pages, we learn of God’s character, His plan for humanity, and how we are to live.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

God

We believe in one eternal God, existing in three persons — Father, Son and Holy Spirit — each fully God, yet one God. He is the Creator of all things, infinite in wisdom, holiness, love and power.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, fully divine and fully human. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, ascended to sit at God’s right hand, and will return in glory. Through Him we have forgiveness, newness of life, and hope.

“For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is God at work in the world and in believers. He convicts of sin, guides into truth, regenerates hearts, dwells in Christians, equips us for service, and produces in us the fruit of Christ-likeness.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.” (John 14:16)

Humanity & Sin

We believe God created humanity in His image, but through sin the world is broken and people are separated from God. Without Christ we are lost, but God offers rescue, restoration, and the chance to live in relationship with Him.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

Salvation

We believe salvation is a free gift of God through Jesus Christ. We are saved by God’s grace, received by faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing His name, and following Him. A transformed life follows genuine faith.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)

Baptism & The Lord’s Supper

We believe that baptism by immersion symbolizes a believer’s union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection, and is the mode following repentance and faith. We meet each Sunday for the Lord’s Supper (the bread and the cup) to remember Christ’s sacrifice, proclaim His death until He comes, and renew our fellowship with Him and with one another.

“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1 Corinthians 11:26)

The Church

We believe the church is the body of Christ — a community of forgiven people committed to worship, service, growth, and sharing the gospel. The local church gathers regularly, encourages each other, and reaches out in love.

“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry…” (Ephesians 4:11-12)

The Return of Christ & Eternal Destiny

We believe Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly. The dead in Christ will be raised, believers will be with the Lord forever, and God will create a new heaven and a new earth. We also believe there is a future judgment for those who reject Christ. Our hope in Christ shapes how we live today.

“Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him.” (Revelation 1:7)

The Church

Because we believe these truths, we aim to:

  • Worship God with sincerity and joy.

  • Grow in faith and knowledge of the Scriptures.

  • Serve others with the love of Christ.

  • Share the hope of the gospel with our community and beyond.

  • Live in expectation of Christ’s return and the fullness of God’s kingdom.

We welcome you to explore these beliefs with us, ask questions, and grow alongside our church family at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Together, we seek to honor God, encourage one another, and make a difference in our world.

Pleasant Grove Church of Christ is a Bible-based congregation dedicated to worshiping God, serving others, and growing together in faith and love.
